BORNEO: MALUKA: AE duit (2.37g), 1813/AH1228, KM-5, duwit mathrif (market doit) in Jawi script within shield // date 1813 over 1228 in hexagon shield, attractive VF, R, ex Wolfgang Schuster Collection. A similar example was sold in our Auction 30, Lot 830. Maluka is a private estate in southern Borneo founded by the Englishman Alexander Hare in 1812, acquired through a grant from the local Sultan. The state existed from 1812 to 1818. The coins were made at a mint in the state in 1812 and 1813. The state ceased to exist when the area was repossessed by the Dutch in 1818.
