BRAZIL: Republic, AV medal (7.12g), 1940, AGW 0.2099 oz., 22mm gold medalet for the 100th Anniversary of the End of the Emperor's Regency, uniformed bust left with PETRUS II - BRAZ. IMP. around // crowned arms of Brazil with EMANCIPATIO ET CORONATIO - MDCCCXL - MCMXL around, plain edge. After the abdication of his father Pedro I on April 7, 1831, the five-year-old Pedro II was appointed his successor. The official business for him was taken over by a council of regents determined by Parliament. Pedro was declared an adult and free of regency early in 1840 at the age of 14. As far as we can determine, this medal is 22kt (.917 fine).
