BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, AR rupee, 1922(b), KM-524, S&W-8.57, scarce date, an attractive lustrous example, PCGS graded MS62, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection. With the passage of the Pittman Act in 1918, 270,232,722 American silver dollars in the Treasury Department vaults in the San Francisco and Philadelphia Mints were melted, with their silver being shipped to Calcutta to be re-coined into British India Rupee coins featuring the effigy of George V dated 1919-1922.
