BRITISH INDIA: George VI, 1937-1947, nickel ¼ rupee pattern, 1946(b), KM-Pn1, S&W-9.102a, based on KM-548, NGC graded Proof 63, RRRR. The quarter and the half rupee pure nickel (magnetic) patterns have appeared just once at auction as listed on CoinArchives, as part of a pattern proof set in the Baldwin's Auction 82, Lot 841, which contained two examples of the rupee, two of the half rupee, but just one of the quarter rupee. Another example of the full rupee sold at the same auction, Lot 840, for £5000 (about $7600). According to Stevens & Weir, only two sets were in existence, each containing two pieces of each denomination dated 1946, and Baldwin's reported that there were three sets known, but they did not know the location of the third set. Pridmore refers only to the 1947 proof set, with no mention of 1946.
