BRITISH INDIA: Victoria, 1837-1901, AV medal (21.79g), Puddester-948.105, 36mm; for the Neilgherry Exhibition, held in the Neilgherry Hills at or near the city of Ooty in Tamil Nadu, close to the state of Karnataka (the region is now called the Nilgiri Hills): head of Queen Victoria, VICTORIA REGINA, with floral symbol below // NEILGHERRY / EXHIBITION within wreath, virtually Unc, RRRR. A copper example, type Pudd-948.106 of this medal was sold at Marudhar Arts Auction 36, Lot 407 (2022). Puddester notes that one of the two known gold medals was sold at Baldwin's Auction 9 (October 2001), with the weight noted as 21.79g, likely the same piece we are offering in this auction. The exhibitions were held in the mid-19th century.
