IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL: Karl I, 1735-1780, AR 6 mariengroschen, Zellerfeld, 1750, KM-872, "Wildman" type, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection. The Braunschweig Wildman refers to a mythological figure popularized in the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg during the 16th to 18th centuries, particularly associated with the Harz Mountains region. This Wildman, often depicted as a hairy, muscular figure, and often holding a tree, was seen as both a protector of the silver mines and a symbol of the region, appearing on coins, in heraldry, and in folklore.
