BURJI MAMLUK:LOT of 53 coins including 52 silver coins and 1 bronze coin, all different by type, mint and/or date, quite a nice grouping all from our old inventory fully attributed in 2x2 holders, a wonderful starter set for the Burji Mamluk dynasty, retail value $1575, lot of 53 coins. The Burji dynasty was a Circassian Mamluk dynasty which ruled Egypt from 1382 until 1517, during the Mamluk Sultanate. It proved especially turbulent, with short-lived sultans. Political power-plays often became important in designating a new sultan. During this time the Mamluks fought Timur and conquered Cyprus. Constant bickering may have contributed to the ability of the Ottomans to challenge them. Their name means 'of the tower', referring to them ruling from the Citadel east of Cairo.
