BURMA: George VI, 1936-1948, AR medal, Burma Gallantry Medal, awarded in 1944 to 66603 Sepoy No Rawt of the Chin Hills Battalion of the Burma Regiment, with original suspension, cleaned, light scratches on obverse, XF, R. The Chin Hills Battalion was a subdivision of the Burma Regiment during WWII. After the Allies forces were forced to retreat from Burma in April 1942, the battalion was the sole regular unit to remain in the Chin Hills on the border with British India. Along with native levies, it played an important role in rebuffing the Japanese advance into India. Sepoy No Rawt was one of only 207 recipients of the Burma Gallantry Medal, awarded between March 26, 1942 and November 28, 1947.
