BURMA: TENASSERIM-PEGU: Anonymous, 17th/18th century, cast large tin coin (76.32g), Robinson, 68.5mm; the mekkara (mythical fish) right, elegantly engraved // 3-line Burmese legend (different from all previously published types); cast from worn molds, second known example (first sold in our Auction 39, Lot 1288), VF to EF, RRRR. According to Than Htun, there were only three known specimens of this type, one in a museum, the second in a private collection in Southeast Asia, and our example in Auction 39. The type was unknown to Robinson, and was not published by Than Htun, as the 17th/18th century coinage of Tenasserim was not included in his valuable publication, "Auspicious Symbols and Ancient Coins of Myanmar", published in Yangon in 2007.
