IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
CANADA: 5 cents token (0.86g), ND (after 1898), Gingras-280, 18mm octagonal aluminum good for token for the Hudson's Bay Company in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, HUDSON'S / BAY CO. / YORKTON. // GOOD FOR / 5¢ / IN MERCHANDISE, reverse rotated about 70 degrees counterclockwise (it's supposed to be medal alignment), very rare, plain edge, XF. In his book Medals, Tokens, and Paper Money of the Hudson's Bay Company, Larry Gingras writes: "In 1898 the Hudson's Bay Company opened a small store in Yorkton [Saskatchewan] to provide better service for settlers in the area. Up to this time the settlers obtained their supplies from Winnipeg and had found this to be inconvenient. The Company's business expanded rapidly in the Colony and resulted in their having to enlarge the premises and to eventually construct a new store."
