CANADA: water token (1.97g), 1890, Breton-618var, St. Leon (Que.) Water Co. Ltd. water token in aluminum, large size (1892 issues are smaller), "GOOD FOR ONE GLASS", double struck, unlisted in aluminum, VF, ex Paul Montz Collection. The Hall-Héroult electrolytic process that dramatically reduced the cost of refining aluminum was introduced in 1889. The earliest tokens struck on affordable aluminum were first stuck in 1890 and became common by the mid-1890s.
