CATTARO: Napoleon I, 1805-1814, cast AR 5 francs, 1813, KM-2, crown above N[apoleon] divides value within beaded circle, I.O. below, DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE around / sword in center of crossed designs within wreath and circle, CATTARO EN ETAT DE SIEGE around, highest graded by NGC (April 2016), NGC graded AU58, RR. The Siege of Cattaro was fought between a British Royal Naval detachment and Montenegrin forces under Captain William Hoste, John Harper and Petar I Petrovic-Njegoü, respectively, and the French garrison under command of Jean-Joseph Gauthier of the mountain fortress of Cattaro (now Kotor, Montenegro). The siege lasted from 14 October 1813 to 3 January 1814, after which the French surrendered.
