CEYLON: Anuradhapura Period, ca.150 BC-AD 100, AE unit (15.07g), cf. Zeno-31248, Square Bull Type, bull standing facing left within double square frame with dots between with altar in front // wheel within a double square frame with dots between, Very Good to Fine, ex James Ambrose Higham Collection. Rectangular copper coins of this type are found in a variety of sizes with a bull standing facing left or right on obverse and a frame with dots on the reverse. Found at various archaeological sites in Anuradhapura. Bopearachchi and Wickremesinhe in Ruhuna illustrate a copper coin from Akurugoda of similar type (#H.26, 18mm, 2.68g).
