The symbol of the dragon is used to represent the emperor and the phoenix to represent the empress and together they represent both aspects of imperial power. A similar example sold in China Guardian (Zhongguó jiadé) Auction Fall 2013 Lot 65 for RMB 10,000. Photo size reduced.
