HISPANIARUM. ET IND. IMPERAT. AUGUST.(rosette)" around // two Indians standing facing with bow, arrow, and spear with rhea to right, all on landscape with OMNIBUS CLEMENS / NAZAUAL INCIDIT in exergue, all within inner circle with "HIGINIUS PRAEFECT.CHIL .PROCLAMAVIT IMPERIUM .ET OBTULIT HOMAG .POPUL .AUST. (rosette)" around, a couple very minor edge defects, plain edge, some red, superb strike, About Unc, RR. This medal appears to be much rarer in bronze than in silver. The Araucanian Indians fought the Spanish for over two centuries. They finally signed two treaties with Spain where the Spanish recognized the independence of Araucanian territory. The hostilities were rekindled after Chile won its independence from Spain in 1818.
