CHINA: AE charm (10.31g), CCH-2116, 29mm "Horse Charm", zhen guan shi ji (ten thoroughbreds of Zhen Guan) // horse left, jue bo above and below, VF, R. Zhen Guan refers to the era name of Emperor Taizong (Li Shimin) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). During his reign, the Kurykan tribe around Lake Baikal gifted the Tang court hundreds of horses as tribute. Among them, ten horses were considered particularly well-bred and personally named by the emperor. One of them was "jue bo" (roughly translates as "bursting as a wave"), which the emperor particularly loved. This charm type was likely cast in the Qing dynasty.
