CHINA: AE charm (4.14g), CCH-1247, 27mm, yi pin dang chao ([May you be] an official of the first degree at the imperial court) // san yang kai tai (The opening of nature in spring), Fine, ex Dr. Axel Wahlstedt Collection. Coins bearing this inscription were issued in 955 by Shi Zong of the Later Zhou Dynasty. Due the lack of copper, the emperor had confiscated many Buddhist statues and melted them down for casting these coins. For this reason, Chinese people consider them a talisman against evil and demons. This type of charms is likely cast in the Qing dynasty and is often found in Sichuan Province.
