CHINA: AE charm (9.29g), CCH-2116, 29mm, "Horse Charm", zhen guan shi ji (ten thoroughbreds of Zhen Guan) // horse left, jue bo above and below, VF, R, ex Dr. Axel Wahlstedt Collection. Zhen Guan refers to the era during which Emperor Taizong (Li Shimin) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) ruled. The Chinese characters on the reverse side are jue bo, which was the name of one of these horses. Jue Bo would roughly translate as "bursting as a wave." This charm type was likely cast in the Qing dynasty.
