IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
CHINA: Republic, brass token (14.24g), ND (ca. 1935-49), 36mm, brass payment certificate, traditional Chinese characters si chuan sheng yin hang pi xian ban shi chu ("Sichuan Provincial Bank, Pi County Office"), fu kuan zheng ("payment certificate") and stamped issue number 13 below // stamped characters chu men zuo fei ("void elsewhere"), holed in center as made, some scrapes on reverse (likely done by the issuer), AU. The Sichuan Provincial Bank was established in 1934 by the 21st Army of the National Revolutionary Army to fund war efforts against the Communists. It was initially named the Sichuan Local Bank before adopting its permanent name the following year. By 1947, it had 109 branches across the province. With the takeover of the People's Republic in 1949, the bank ceased to exist and became the Sichuan branch of the People's Bank of China.
