CHINA: Republic, enameled AE badge (18.27g), 1938 / year 27, 38mm, identification badge used by soldiers of the 144th Division of the 8th Route Army, di ba lu ("8th route") within the White Sun emblem of the Republic of China, di shi ba ji tuan jun ("18th Army Group") above, nian qi - 144 - nian yong ("used in year 27") // 1938, attached with original red ribbon and pinback, a very nice example with enamel intact, XF-AU. Officially the 18th Army Group of the National Revolutionary Army, the Eighth Route Army (Ba Lu Jun in Chinese) is famous in China for its battles against the Japanese army during WWII. Though nominally a part of Second United Front with Chang Kai-shek's Nationalists, it was entirely under the command of Chinese Communist Party. Many of its commanders went on to become prominent officials of the People's Republic of China.
