CHINA: Silver Ingots: AR sycee (162.0g), ca. 1884-1914, Cribb-800 (Class-LXVI), 54 x 37 x 14mm, 4.5-tael Yunnan sanchuo jieding (three stamp remittance ingot) "packsaddle" type, cast at Leiqingtai Bank in the month of May, with additional stamp ku (treasury) in center; the two ridges applied with modern fantasy stamps of guang dong sheng zao (Made in Guangdong Province), VF. The Yunnan Board of Revenue began accepting three stamp remittance ingots as tax payment in 1904. Due to the lower purity of these sycees (usually around 98%), a supplementary payment was required to make up the difference and these sycees were stamped with ku to distinguish them from the those used as tax payment. The fantasy stamps were likely applied in Southeast Asia in the 1960's-70's.
