CHINESE SOVIET REPUBLIC: AR 20 cents, 1932, Y-508, L&M-894, nice grade for type, NGC graded AU58. The Chinese Soviet Republic is often referred to in historical sources as the Jiangxi Soviet (after its largest component territory, the Jiangxi-Fujian Soviet in southeastern China). It was established in Nov. 1931 by future Communist Party of China leaders Mao Zedong, General Zhu De and others. After being overrun by the Nationalist forces under the command of Chiang Kai-shek in Oct. 1934, the entire Soviet Republic, consisting of about 86,000 troops, embarked on the Long March, an ardruous 9000km-long trek through the mountainous hinterlands. Only 8,000 of them survived the march and arrived in Shaanxi Province in northwestern China a year later.
