CHITTAGONG: Yusuf Amir, rebel at Chittagong, ca. 1038, AR tanka (8.12g), Chittagong, ND, G-GD11, Mitch-344, this specimen published & illustrated by both Goron & Mitchiner (also by Chowdhury), believed unique, some damage, obverse scratched, Very Fine, RRR. Yusuf's Arakanese name is believed to have been Meng-Re, who rebelled against Arakan in 1638 immediately after the assassination of the Arakanese king Thirithudhamma. His full Persian name on this tanka is probably Muzaffar Yusuf Amir, although the name Muzaffar is tentative. Note that Yusuf is spelled with sad rather than the normal sin, but this was not unusual in Bengal, as for example the word Sayf on the coins of the Bengal sultan Sayf al-Din Firuz (1488-1490). Most of the Bengali text is off flan, largely due to misstriking, so that his Bengali name remains unknown.
