CISALPINE REPUBLIC: AR scudo, year VIII (1800), Cr-2, Dav-199, MIR-477, Pag-8, ALLA NAZ FRAN LA REP CISAL RICONOSCENTE around Allegory of the Cisalpine Republic paying tribute to the seated France, with a stork on the right (symbol of devotion) and a cornucopia on the left (symbol of abundance) // SCUDO / DI LIRE SEI / 27 PRATILE / ANNO VIII within oak wreath, an attractively toned nearly mint state example, PCGS graded AU58. The Cisalpine Republic was a sister republic and a satellite state of France created by Napoleon out of territories in Northern Italy that lasted from 1797 to 1802. This semi-medallic scudo was minted to celebrate the Convention of Alessandria (June 15, 1800 = 27 pratile VIII) after the victory of the French Army in the Battle of Marengo.
