CIVIC COPPER: AE falus (13.38g), Sa’ujbulagh, AH1234, A-3258, Alaedini page 84-2, tamga within octogram // daraba Sa’ujbulagh, ornaments around, within plain, beaded and plain circles, overstruck on earlier lion attacked bull type, VF. Saujbulagh is known today as Mahabad, the capital of Mahabad County in West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. This mint was active during the AH1230s-1250s, though some of the rare undated specimens were perhaps struck at other times. This is a remarkable type. It is a very close copy of obverse of Baghdad 5 para AH1231 type issued during rebellion of Sa‘id Pasha, the Mamluk ruler of Iraq between 1813 and 1816.
