CIVIC COPPER: temp. Sultan Muhammad Tila'i, 1831-1834, AE falus (7.92g), Peshawar, AH1249, A-A3253, KM-83, 4-petal flower, date below / mint name, bold obverse, weak reverse, VF, RRR. AH1249 was the last year of Afghan control of Peshawar, falling to the Sikhs either late in 1249 or early in 1250. There is a floral symbol between the U and S of falus, similar to Sikh symbols. Since this piece is totally anonymous, similar to contemporary Afghan and Sikh copper coins, further research is neaded to determine whether this was truly a Barakzay issue or a very early Sikh issue, perhaps dated 1249 but not struck until early the following year.
