CZECHOSLOVAKIA: Republic, AE medal, Czechoslovak Revolutionary Medal 1914-1918, with original ribbon, XF. The Czechoslovak Revolutionary Medal is a Czechoslovak state decoration awarded for the resistance for a free Czechoslovakia. It was awarded to military volunteers and participants of the domestic resistance, Czechoslovak legionnaires, Czechoslovak citizens and foreigners for outstanding military or political activities in favor of the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic. It was founded by a decree of the President of Czechoslovakia Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk on December 1, 1918. The medal features a heavy bronze Greek cross with curved arms superimposed on a circle. It was designed by the influential French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, who was an assistant to Rodin. The obverse depicts a nude figure on horseback holding a flag, surrounded by the Czech text "VZHURU NA STRAZ SVOBODNY NARODE" (Up on Guard, Free Nation) and the reverse features a winged female figure (Victory) with the text "ZA SVOBODU" (For Freedom).
