DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: AR rupee (11.35g), Arkat (Arcot), AH118x year 13, KM-, Zeno-224676 & 112197 (for further information), in the name of Shah Alam II: the characteristic marks on the obverse is the short obverse legend shah 'alam padshah-i ghazi mubarak and on the reverse a trisul within the S of "jalus and a whirling flower left of the regnal year; several banker's marks on both sides and some rough cleaning on the obverse, VF-EF, RR, ex Charles W. Lueders III Collection. Examples in the name of Shah Alam II, mint name "Arkat", dated AH1183 and regnal years 13 or 14, are known (cited by Uno Barner Jensen in "Danish East India Trade Coins and the coins of Tranquebar 1620-1845", pp. 30-31). According to a report from Jan Lingen, the Danes struck rupees from about 1755 (in the name of Alamgir II) until 1776, called either Pondicherry rupees or Danish Arkat rupees in their records.
