DELHI: Iltutmish, 1217-1236, AR tanka (10.74g), [Lakhnauti], VS[12]77, G-B18 (sic), struck in Bengal, horseman, holding mace in his right hand, galloping left // Nagari sri above the name iltutmish, some weakness of strike, without any testmarks or banker's marks, attractive VF, R.

NOTE: Lots 1072 and 1078 are identical, same type and same dies, in the name of the new sultan of Delhi (Iltutmish) but struck in Bengal. Technically, both are correct. Goron has listed them under Bengal, but both Wright and Hull called them Delhi Sultanate. Nowadays, the attribution to Bengal seems to have become the standard.

The VS date is equivalent to AD1220/21 and is the earliest known numerical date on an Indian coin (earlier numbers as regnal or issue years are known, but not as actual dates, e.g., the fanams of Orissa), engraved in Nagari numerals.
