DENMARK: Frederik VI, 1808-1839, AR 1/6 rigsdaler, 1808, KM-664, mintmaster MF, Voluntary Offering for the Fatherland Commemorative, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. After the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, Denmark had to give up its policy of neutrality with respect to the parties involved in the Napoleonic Wars. However, this only made worse, and after the British bombing of Copenhagen, 4-5 September 1807, whereas Denmark lost his spirit and it's fleet was delivered as a booty of war.The loss of the fleet was a disaster, and a nationwide collection of silver was therefore planned to finance a new fleet. This coin was minted in Altona with part of this collected silver.
