DENMARK: Frederik VI, 1808-1839, AR 1/6 rigsdaler courant, Altona, 1808, KM-664, Hede-6, Voluntary offer for the Fatherland type, a lustrous nearly mint state example, PCGS graded AU58. After the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, Denmark had to give up its policy of neutrality with respect to the parties involved in the Napoleonic Wars. However, this only made worse, and after the British bombardment of the Danish capital 4-5 September 1807, Denmark lost his spirit and the Dano-Norwegian fleet was delivered as a booty of war. And after the British bombardment a nationwide collection of silver was therefore planned to finance a new fleet. This coin was minted in Altona with part of this collected silver.
