DURRANI: Ahmad Shah, 1747-1772, AR rupee (11.34g), Lahore, AH1180 year 21, A-3092, bold strike, EF, RR. Lahore was lost to the Sikhs in AH1178 (1764 AD, VS1822), and the first Sikh coinage was struck at Lahore in VS1822 and 1823. However, the Durrani forces briefly regained control over Lahore in AH1180, which began on 9 July 1766, late in VS1823. This 2nd Durrani occupation of Lahore lasted only a few months, and Lahore was restored to Sikh authority later that year, with a slightly modified Sikh coinage commencing in VS1824. Durrani rupees of Lahore dated AH1170-1178 are reasonably common, but there are none dated 1179 during the Sikh control, and only a few known examples dated 1180.
