DURRANI: Ahmad Shah, 1747-1772, AR rupee (11.38g), Lahore, AH11(61) year one (ahad), A-3092, KM-622, Whitehead-216, nice strike, citing Ahmad in the standard couplet on obverse, and again as ahmad shah durr-i durran ("Ahmad Shah Pearl of Pearls") on the reverse, 1 testmark, VF, RRR. The Durranis conquered Lahore from the Mughals in January 1748 (beginning of AH1161) but withdraw after about three months, returning the city to the Mughals for several years. This is first example of this type I can recall having seen.
