DURRANI: Humayun Shah, 1793, AR rupee (11.63g), Ahmadshahi (= Qandahar), AH1207, A-3105, KM-128, Zeno-112278 (this piece), with the mint epithet ashraf al-bilad, "the most noble of cities"; superb strike, superior to any recorded on CoinArchives, choice AU, RRR. Humayun was one of 23 sons of the previous ruler, Taimur Shah, several of whom competed for the throne. Humayun proclaimed his leadership in Qandahar, but was quickly defeated by his brother Shah Zaman, who had him blinded. This example is also dated 1207 below the obverse, barely noticeable on this piece, but confirmed by the example that sold in our Auction 14, Lot 820, from the same obverse die.
