DURRANI: Safqat Jang (b. Shah Shuja'), 1842-1843, AR rupee (9.07g), Ahmadshahi, AH1258//1258, A-3149S, with the Arabic obverse inscription al-mulku lillah al-wahid al qahhar ("the kingship belongs to God, the One, the Almighty"), strong VF to EF. Appointed by the British upon their withdrawal from Qandahar at the end of Jumada II AH1258, forced out by Kohandil Khan very early into 1259 upon his return to Qandahar from exile in Iran, Safdar Jang was the last of the Durranis to ascend the throne. This type is A-3149S, not A-V3150, an error in our previous listings.
