DURRANI: Sulaiman Shah, 1772, AV mohur (10.95g), Kabul, AH1186 year one ahad), A-M3096, KM-429, Whitehead-343 (same dies), standard design, as on all gold and silver coins of Sulaiman Shah (except for the mint of Dera); superb bold strike, choice XF, RRRR, ex Spink Auction 12027, lot 607 (December 2012). Sulaiman was appointed king by Shah Wali Khan upon the death of Ahmad Shah, but Shah Wali was not well-liked, so that most of his supporters switched over to Taimur Shah. A few weeks later, Taimur ordered the assassination of Shah Wali and much of his family, after which Sulayman surrendered the throne to Taimur and became a loyal follower of Taimur. This piece is the only gold coin filed on CoinArchives, although there are several silver rupees, almost all of the Kashmir mint.
