DUTCH INDIA: Negapatnam, AV 1/2 pagoda (1.71g), ND (ca. 1622-1781), Sc-. KM-, Anonymous issue, the deity Vishnu, as Venkateswara // granulated field, struck under the Dutch East India Company; it is probably only the full pagoda of this type has been published (KM-22, Scholten-1228), lovely strike, XF-AU, RRR. The region of Negapatnam was ceded to the British in 1781. Scholten suggests that the British continued to mint this type of the full pagoda after 1781, presumably for at least a few years. Since the Dutch rarely, if ever, struck half padogas at Negapatnam, if is conceivable that this issue was actually a British issue after 1781.
