EGYPT: French Occupation, 1798-1801, AV 1/2 zeri mahbub (1.23g), Misr, AH12[0]3, KM-151, Fr-55, EF, RR. This type of gold coin was struck in the name of the Ottoman sultan Selim III, with the Arabic initial "B" instead of regnal year which is believed to stand for either Napoleon Bonaparte or for the appointed engraver at the Cairo mint, Denis Samuel Bernard. During the French occupation, nearly all Egyptian coins were rather crudely struck, both silver and gold.
