IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
ESTONIA: DORPAT: Jodokus von der Recke, 1544-1551, BI schilling (1.02g), [15]44, Haljak-643, attractive light luster, XF-AU. The Bishopric of Dorpat in Estonia existed from 1224, and was a member of the Livonian Confederation. Under Dietrich II Damerow, relations between Dorpat and the Livonian Order were strained, getting to the point where the Livonian Order unsuccessfully tried to invade Dorpat in 1379. Although the conflict did end up being resolved, the relationships between the two places remained strained. As a result of the Livonian War (1558-1583), the Bishopric of Dorpat fell under Russian control in 1558, officially becoming the first member of the Livonian Confederation to cease to exist.
