Erslev, Kristian, Medieval Coins in the Christian J. Thomsen Collection, Attic Books, South Salem, 1992, 442 pages 22 pages, hardcover with dust jacket. Kristian Erslev was given the task of completing the Thomsen Collection catalogue by the Royal Daninsh Coin Cabinet in 1871. By 1876 he had completed and published this work. Among the most important medieval collections ever assembled, the C.J. Thomsen collection forms the nucleus of the Danish National Museum's medieval collection. This work brings together diverse countries not found elsewhere in one reference, and is the only one volume catalogue of Western European medieval coins in print. Areas covered include Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Serbia, Armenia, and Byzantine Empire. Erslev's 19th century version of this classic has been translated into English for this new edition, which contains an addendum by Alan M. Stahl and Allen G. Berman, updating much of the scholarship to modern standards.
