FATIMID: al-Mu'izz, 953-975, AR 1/2 dirham (1.38g), NM, DM, A-699-var, Nicol, also citing unknown governor Ahmad b. 'Isa below the reverse field; mint name off flan, but the style is clearly North African during the chaotic period of armed conflict between the supporters of the Umayyads of Spain and the Fatimids of Ifriqiya, holed for suspension, Fine, RRR. These conflicts involved the various Berber tribes, who frequently switched their alignments between the Umayyads and Fatimids. It is likely that Ahmad b. 'Isa was the official of one of the Berber tribes in what is now Morocco and Algeria, though I have not been able to find any reference to that name. The overall style is quite similar to the dirham of the Banu Ifran ruler Ya'lâ b. Ahmad (A-457M).
