FATIMID: al-Mu'izz, 953-975, AR fractional dirham (0.69g), NM, NM, A-699I, issue of the local governor Ahmad b. 'Isa: citing the Fatimid Imam as Abu Tamin Ma'add on the obverse, and the governor Ahmad b. 'Isa below the Sunni kalima on the reverse; very crudely engraved legends, but sufficiently legible, F-VF, RRR. It is also possible that Ahmad b. 'Isà was not actually a Fatimid governor but just a local Berber ruler who struck his coins in the name of the Fatimid Imam for hopeful protection against his enemies, including the Umayyads of Spain. The Fatimids administration might have formally accepted this.
