FATIMID: al-Mustansir, 1036-1094, "AV" dinar (2.68g), Madinat al-Salam, A-719A, Nicol-2097 (different obverse die), Jafar-F.MS.451F (as illustrated by Nicol for #2097), some corrosion reveals that this is a gold-plated copper or billon host; clear mint name but the date is completely broken off; corroded and much surface damage, F-VF, RRRR. The Tübingen specimen illustrated by Nicol is clearly gold and weighs 4.17g. The calligraphy and style of both this piece and Nicol's piece are correct and were likely struck from dies produced in either Egypt or Syria, perhaps taken to Baghdad for production, hoping that Baghdad would remain in Fatimid control after the conquest by al-Basisir, which of course never happened.
