FATIMID: al-Mustansir, 1036-1094, BI dirham aswad (1.47g), NM/MM, ND, A-723, Nicol-2306/07 (type Y2), with the remarkable phrase 'ala afdal al-wasiyin above the name al-Mustansir in the obverse field, mint unknown but likely struck only at Halab, crude Fine, RRR. Billon dirhams struck at Halab AH452-454 are purely Fatimid, though the nominal ruler would have still been the Mirdasid Thamâl (d. 454). The style of this copper is identical to the fals of his successor 'Atiya b. Salih (AH454-457), type A-B769. It was thus likely struck either during the last months of Thamâl or the first few months of 'Atiya.
