FATIMID: al-Zahir, 1021-1036, AV 1/4 dinar (1.08g), NM, ND, A-715, contemporary imitation, with many abbrievated words, and especially blundered marginal legends, EF, RRR.

The inscriptions in the obverse field are clearly those of al-Zahir, but the style is entirely Spanish, with the alifs of the obverse field engraved as a long single line at the far right of the field, as is common on late silver & gold coins of the Umayyads of Spain (late AH300s to very early 400s), and found on various coins of the later Taifas, probably until at least AH450. Thus is it likely that this piece was struck somewhere in Spain, and because of the heavily blundered Arabic calligraphy, probably in the Christian north. It was found together with a lot of normal Siqilliya quarter dinars with a terminal date of about AH428, which allegedly were found somewhere in Spain. No similar example was published by Nicol in his article on Fatimid imitations (Israel Numismatic Society Journal, volume 10).
