FRANCE: AE medal, The Inter Allied Victory Medal (Médaille Interalliée de la Victoire), with original ribbon, AU, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The Allied Victory Medal was recommended by an inter-allied committee in March 1919. Fourteen victorious countries finally awarded the medal after World War I, and each allied nation would design a ‘Victory Medal’ for award to their own nationals. Certain features were to be shared, such as the same ribbon and for most countries, a winged figure of Victory. The obverse shows the winged Goddess of Victory, holding a laurel wreath or olive branch, with a sword in its sheath. The reverse inscription reads "LA GRANDE GUERRE POUR LA CIVILISATION 1914-1918" (The Great War for Civilization), with a small Phrygian cap separating "R" and "F" (République Française).
