FRANCE: COLLECTION of 71 medals, bronze series of the Kings of France by Gayrard, each 32mm with the king's portrait on obverse and important dates of his reign on reverse: example: bust right with LOUIS XIII ROY DE FRAN ET DE NAVAR around // (translated) "64. (number in the series) / NE. (born) 1601 / SUCCEDE. (reign began) 1610. / DEFAITS DES IMPERIAUX. (defeat of the imperials) / 1638. / MORT. died) 1643 / TROISIEME RACE (third subseries) / P. (Pere-nephew)", all rulers from Pharamond in 417 through Louis Philippe I in 1848, includes one piece for Louis XVII who did not reign, and also a piece giving an explanation of the inscriptions, all in a nice state of preservation (Choice Glossy Unc) but for a few with some spotting, most brown but some have some original red, a handsome and rare set, in consignor's 2x2 holders, viewing recommended; retail value $2000, collection of 71 pieces, R. Since Gayrard died in 1858, the set was most likely produced in the mid-1800s.
