FRANCE: Charles V, 1364-1380, AV franc á pied, ND (1365), Fr-284, Duplessy-360, armored king facing with scepter and sword with KAROLVS*DI*GR / FRANCORV*REX around // floriated cross in quadrilobe with two crowns and two lis in angles and +XPC*VINCIT*XPC*REGNAT*XPC*IMPERAT around, NGC graded AU58. Charles V ("the Wise") received from his grandfather in 1349 the rule of the province Dauphiné. He was able to use the title "Dauphin" until his coronation, and the province was integrated into the French crown's lands. All French heirs apparent since Charles V have bore the title of Dauphin until their coronation.
