FRANCE: Henri IV, 1589-1610, AE medal (19.21g), ND, Jones-185, 38mm cast bronze medal by Philippe Danfrie on Entry of Henry IV to Paris; HENRICVS IIII D G FRANCORVM ET NAVA REX around laureate and cuirassed bust of the king facing right // triumphal arch with the letter H on the base of each column, VF. On March 22, 1594, Henry IV of France entered Paris, marking the end of the French Wars of Religion and the beginning of a new era of political stability and reconciliation. On the occasion of his entry into Paris on 22 March 1594, Henry IV gave a gold copy of this medal to the Swiss captain Osterwald, who commanded a company of three hundred guards in the service of the king. It is likely that other officers were rewarded in the same way.
