In 1833, King Louis-Philippe commissioned sculptor Charles-Marie Seurre to create a new statue of Napoleon for the Vendôme Column, depicting him as the "Little Corporal," which was inaugurated on July 28, 1833, as a political move to reconcile with Bonapartists after the Bourbon Restoration removed the original.
